Egypt holidays flight 208 to Hurghada
By Article Expert on Oct. 24, 2009.
I had a need recently to give my daughter a little ‘telling off’. She had written a note to someone which was a little uncomplimentary. it was, of course, a retaliatory response to some nasty behaviour from somebody in the classroom. I took it for granted that this was common in schools with children of that age group. “Be more careful what you leave lying around”, I told her, especially with sensitive material. It jogged my memory and reminded me of something that happened a couple of years ago.
I was flying on the Excel Airways aircraft from Gatwick to Hurghada in Egypt. I had said that the holiday to Egypt would happen one day, and now we had finally saved enough to go. I had a good idea in my mind where I wanted to stay, but allowed my daughter to find details on Egypt holidays in the region of Hurghada.
Egypt was in our thoughts as we sat back and relaxed on board our flight. i started to talk to someone sitting close by me on the aircraft. He had been a regular traveller to Egypt and had once been employed for a company operating Nile cruises when he was in his twenties. He had with him one of these handy travel guides that list the best places to stay and to visit. I noticed that our chosen hotel, the Iberotel Aquamarine, was among those featured in a section on luxury hotels. This gave me a feeling of satisfaction that we had chosen well, and were likely to have great time.
Forgive the digression from the main story. We were informed that a note had been found claiming that a bomb was on board the flight. The flight was diverted to an Italian airport, where we had to stay in an hotel for three days! Fortunately it turned out to be a hoax, but made me think of the conversation with my daughter.
