By Article Expert on Apr. 17, 2009.

Those who consider procrastination to be simply a matter of laziness do not fully understand the psychology of the problem and instead claim that a kick is the only reliable way to stop procrastination. On the other hand, even those who understand that procrastination can be a manifestation of a more deeply seated problem may still consider that the perpetrator is procrastinating about finding help.

Some people with a tendency to procrastinate may actually be suffering from depression or even attention deficit disorder which can both be underlying causes of procrastination. While procrastination is considered a behavior disorder, by treating other diagnosed issues it may be possible to offer a method to stop the procrastination at the same time. It is often recommended that those people who are chronic procrastinators see a therapist or a mental health professional to determine if there are other treatable issues causing them to consistently put thing off.

Therapy can a useful process for people to change behavioral patterns such as phobias and, for example, a fear of flying. These types of upsets in a person’s psychological balance cannot always be treated with medication, but a therapist can offer them a better understanding of why they display the particular behavior. Through this type of treatment a person can usually begin to stop procrastination~change the procrastination habit~stop procrastinating if it is required.

Continued Procrastination Can Lead To Addictions

When a person continues to put off doing certain tasks, they usually focus their attention on other, sometimes solitary projects. It is possible that someone who fails to set about stopping their procrastination will end up addicted to, say, the computer, if that is what they turn to to take their focus away from something else that should be done. Taking refuge behind a computer screen offers self-justification for putting off doing something, but an addiction to computer gaming or the internet may be a signal that procrastination help is required.

Attention deficit disorder, while typically associated with children, has lately become a more common diagnosis for adults who cannot remained focussed on one thing for a long time. When this leads to procrastination seeking treatment for attention deficit disorder can also lead to stopping the procrastination.

In the majority of cases procrastination is displayed as an avoidance behavior where the individual will perform other tasks unrelated to the project they are ignoring. By learning new behaviors, as well as finding out what draws their focus away from their planned project, a cure for procrastination can be found.

Part of the process of stopping procrastination is learning to set smart goals. Setting achievable goals~How to set achievable goals and taking steps towards those goals can create breakthroughs in many areas of our lives.

Goals Setting: How to Achieve Quick Desirable Results

By Article Expert on Mar. 8, 2009.

Imagine living a life of all night parties, and cocktails, and twenty four hour fun.  In your mind, picture yourself achieving your dreams like running a business or getting a graduate degree.  You would choose which one?  It is completely your choice on how you plan to live your life.  Its a good thing to pursue whatever makes you happy.  You can not hope to achieve any of your dreams until you set your goals and ways to attain.

Goals Setting:  The Importance of Doing It

Goals set, why? If you want to gain success in your life, goals set will prove to be important.  Goals setting involve deep thinking in regards to, how and when you would like to achieve your goals.  You get closer to your goal when doing this.    If it doesn’t in some way contribute to your plan, then you are just going to have to weed that activity out.

Don’t mistake this for not having time for relaxation and recharging.  Setting goals requires being capable of managing yourself and your own time.  The last thing that you want to happen is to pass your unfilled dreams onto your children.  Always keep in mind that your children may have different goals than you do, and imposing your goals will only create a gap.

In what ways do you go about setting up your goals?  The most important prerequisite to setting goals is a clear mind.  Goals do not simply appear out of the blue.  Your goals arise out of your life experiences which form the basis for what you hope to get out of life.  In addition, the goals that you set shouldn’t completely contradict what you currently have.  For example, you have arrived at the peak in your career as a school counseler and you decide to become a photographer in the next three years.  After reviewing your situation, it appears that operating your own counseling clinic is a more realistic goal.  These goals should be positive and fairly lofty.  A goal that you set for yourself that you know you can achieve is no challege at all.  Setting a timetable for your goals is also important.  Time constraints encourage you to work hard using the fastest method possible.  To finish you must write down ever goal details so you can easily read it over later.

Becoming an Expert in Goals Setting

Now that you have learned how to set your goals, you cannot stop learning more and more. If you want to achieve more of your goals, never stop researching.  Setting your goals in order is followed by learning in depth goals setting processes, which can then be used to achieve success with larger goals.  You need to keep up with the constant change that occurs in technology in this day and age.  Moreover, if you go to seminars, read both electronic and print sources, and practice goals setting each time, you’ll develop and then master your abilities in this particular area.  Becoming an expert in setting goals is your ultimate goal.

Of course, the best and most successful plan to succeed is to apply yourself to setting goals.  The quicker you drink it all in, the sooner the desired results will follow.
